Matt with gas tanksDear friends and family,

Thank you.

I’m sorry there are not more substantial words to express my gratitude and regard for what you did for my campaign these last few months.

We knew that this race would be an uphill battle from the beginning. But I believed it was the right thing to do. So, we raised the standard and charged forward. Although we didn’t take the hill, we gained a lot of ground.

When the reporters called me for comment last night, I told them I was grateful to God for sustaining me through this campaign with the help of dear friends-- and you are dear to me and Jennie.

Defeat may bring disappointment, but it should never lead us to despair. History, after all, is remembered in blocks of time. It’s common in school to deal with a 50 or 100-year period of time in just one hour of instruction. Men and women who were separated by several generations are talked about as though they were contemporaries with one another.

I should have liked to have known Churchill and MacArthur. But future generations will lump our actions in with theirs as part of a continual weave. Their battles will be seen as our battles too. Their victories, our victories. This should encourage us to think past our own personal agendas and always consider how we can work together to address the struggles and problems of our time.

I congratulate Twinkle Cavanaugh for her well fought victory. She ran a very professional, positive campaign and I wish her the very best in her fall campaign. You can visit her website at www.twinkle4psc.com.

I end this first campaign encouraged and greatly blessed. Thank you for standing with me these last months. If there is anything I can ever do for you, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Press on!

Kindest regards,

Matt
